Describe the men’s situation in terms of

a.       their physical surroundings

They are at the South Pole, so it is very cold and of course the men are hurt of the unbearable temperature, once had a frostbite in his food and another walking away from the camp and they never see him again.  

b.      the state of their provisions
They run out of fuel a couple of days before they got to the depot, also the food ration     is getting smaller and they are a long wa form the depot.

c.      their mental condition
They only thought about beeing the first men at the south pole but then they saw Norwegian's flag and the knew they were not the first at the South Pole. 
Also the weather and the cold temperatures is hard for the men's mental condition but they still hope and wish for the best, they keep fighting against the bad conditions.
